What was the last thing you remember?

Perhaps you were just about to go to sleep, or opening a door to a room, or maybe you were just going to take a leap of faith running away from the dangers behind you. No matter the reason, in the blink of an eye you are no longer wherever you were, and arrived — drifted — into a whole new world. But here's the catch: you can't exactly leave. No matter how much you try, even with the help of Pokémon, big or small, something is keeping you from escaping this world’s borders.

That's quite the predicament you got there, don't you think? Not sure how this'll be resolved but surely you'll be out of there soon enough! When will that be, you say? Ah, well... We'll get back to you on that.

In the meantime, enjoy your stay in Ultern!

The Ultern Region

A region that is further out of reach from all the other regions such as Kanto, Unova, Alola, Galar and more. Surrounded by only the infinite sea and sky, this mysterious location is home to a variety of Pokémon that were either displaced or have thought to have been long forgotten by time. Most of those who enter into Ultern are all drifted in by some mysterious force, originating either from different points in time or from different parallel worlds. Stranger still is that it is almost next to impossible to leave this region, as traveling beyond the region's borders places you back to where you left off, putting outsiders who have been drifted into the region trapped and unable to return to whence they came from.

Although you may be far from home, this world’s inhabitants will make sure you will feel as if you belong here in Ultern.

Geography, People & Culture

  • Due to its tropical climate, it’s common to find flora surrounding the islands such as palm trees and bright red hibiscus flowers. Those from the regions of Hoenn and Alola may feel right at home due to its fairly similar environment.
  • Again, given its tropical environment the only seasons this region has are the dry and wet seasons. From spring to summer the skies are clearer but the temperature is higher and more warmer around those times. While in fall and winter seasons, there are more rains and lower temperatures, making the island chillier around those seasons.
  • Those native from the Hoenn region may be able to recognize the Ulternian accent and some of their phrases that they use.
  • In Ultern, those who were suddenly taken away from their home worlds and end up in the region are known as the “Drifted” by locals. It is unknown when and where they have coined this term, but people being drifted in and out of Ultern seems like a fairly common occurrence to them.
  • It's not uncommon to find mass wild outbreaks of Drifted Pokémon.
  • While traveling on routes, one will find at least two signs near patches of tall grass warning passerbys for any wild Dunsparce.
  • The locals are warm, friendly and welcoming, and are able to offer a helping hand when needed.
  • People of Ultern will greet everyone with “Ulsai!”, a local greeting in the Ulternian language.
  • A common feature on Ulternian architecture are the red-colored roofings. Most will have small statues of a bird-like Pokémon and a strange canine or lion-like Pokémon affixed to it. These statues can also be found in front of entrances too, as if they're guarding it. Locals will explain that they symbolize the region's guardians and ward off evil spirits.
  • Poké Balls in Ultern are commonly painted over for fun and the aesthetics. Otherwise unpainted the Poké Balls are identical to Premier Balls, which those who came from outside of Ultern would easily mistake them for.
